FC Bayern Frauen have rewritten the history books. A commanding 4-1 demolition of SC Freiburg on Sunday sealed a 45th consecutive Frauen-Bundesliga match without defeat - a new all-time record for the competition.
It was also a third straight win from three outings this season, underlining Bayern's ruthless early-season form.
Momoko Tanikawa produced the moment of the match in the 18th minute, launching an audacious strike from just beyond the halfway line to open the scoring. Vanessa Gilles then headed in shortly before the break to make it 2-0 at half-time.
Freiburg's Luca Birkholz pulled one back on 64 minutes, but any hopes of a comeback were swiftly extinguished. Klara Bühl restored the two-goal cushion in the 73rd minute before Tanikawa grabbed her second deep into stoppage time to round off the rout.
Perhaps the afternoon's most emotional storyline belonged to Sarah Zadrazil, who stepped back onto the pitch after 348 days sidelined with a knee injury - a welcome boost ahead of a busy fixture schedule.
Bayern travel to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 14 September before hosting 1. FC Köln five days later, as reported by OneFootball.
