Bonansea joins San Diego Wave on loan

Juventus legend heads stateside

Italian forward Barbara Bonansea is set for a new chapter in her decorated career after completing a loan switch from Juventus to San Diego Wave FC. The deal, Soccerdonna reports, will see her represent the NWSL side until June 2027.

Alongside the move, Bonansea has penned a contract extension with Juventus through to 30 June 2028, ensuring her long-term future in Turin remains secure.

A record-breaking spell in Turin

Since arriving at Juventus in 2017, Bonansea has racked up 249 appearances and 96 goals - making her the club's all-time record appearance holder. She netted the first ever Serie A goal in the club's history and their opening two Champions League strikes.

During 2025/26, she featured 30 times, scoring five goals across Serie A Women, Coppa Italia Women, the Serie A Women's Cup and the UEFA Women's Champions League.

Her trophy haul with Juventus is staggering: six league titles, four cups, five Supercoppa crowns and the inaugural Serie A Women's Cup.

Roots at Torino and Brescia

Before Juventus, Bonansea spent six seasons at Torino, topping 100 appearances with nearly 40 goals. A move to Brescia followed, where she claimed two Italian championships, two Coppa Italia titles and three Supercoppa Italiana trophies. In 2016 she was named Serie A Footballer of the Year.

Over a century of Italy caps

Bonansea has represented Italy since her 2012 debut, earning more than 100 caps. She featured at the 2019 and 2023 World Cups plus three European Championships - 2017, 2022 and 2025 - reaching the semi-finals at Euro 2025.
