North Carolina Courage travel to Chicago on Saturday riding a wave of momentum that makes them one of the most dangerous sides in the NWSL right now. Four wins from their last five outings - including clean sheets against Denver Summit and Angel City - paint a picture of a team firing on all cylinders. Their season averages tell the story: 1.8 goals scored per match, six clean sheets from 21 games, and a rock-solid away record of five wins from nine on the road.
Chicago Red Stars, meanwhile, are in freefall. One win in their last five - a narrow 3-2 victory over Racing Louisville sandwiched between a 5-0 hammering at Houston and a 6-1 demolition by Denver Summit. That's 11 goals conceded in two away trips. The numbers are grim: just 0.3 goals per game away from home, and only three points earned on the road all season.
The Courage own this fixture. They've won four of the last six meetings, scoring 16 goals to Chicago's five. The most recent clash in May ended 4-0 to North Carolina. Even at Chicago's home ground last season, the Courage won 3-1. The only respite for the Red Stars was a dramatic 3-3 draw in August 2025.
Chicago's defensive frailties - 2.1 goals conceded per game overall - collide with North Carolina's prolific attack. The Courage's away efficiency and historical dominance make them strong favourites, though Chicago's slightly better home record offers a sliver of hope.
