Caitlin Clark has slipped to fifth in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup MVP standings as the tournament in Berlin enters its decisive phase. The Indiana Fever star remains a potent creative force for Team USA, but her overall shooting numbers have opened the door for rivals to climb above her.
France captain Gabby Williams currently tops the MVP rankings, with her side pushing into the semi-finals in pursuit of a first-ever gold medal. Breanna Stewart sits second, followed by France's Marine Johannes in third and Germany's Leonie Fiebich in fourth.
Clark leads Team USA with 7.0 assists per game across four outings. She turned heads in the opener against China, racking up 10-plus assists to become the first American guard in 28 years to hit that mark at a FIBA World Cup.
The numbers are less flattering elsewhere, though. Clark ranks just sixth among the 12 US players in scoring and is shooting 32 per cent from the field - a figure that has weighed on her MVP credentials.
A semi-final clash with Spain awaits the United States, while Fiebich's Germany will face Williams and France on the other side of the draw. Strong showings in the remaining matches could yet revive Clark's MVP case, particularly if she can marry her elite playmaking with improved efficiency from the floor.
Angel Reese has also impressed alongside Clark on the international stage, with the pair demonstrating genuine chemistry as Team USA chase the title.
