North Carolina Courage left it until the dying seconds to snatch a breathless 4-3 victory over the Washington Spirit in the NWSL on Saturday night. Natalie Jacobs buried the winner in the 95th minute - set up by Feli Rauch - to complete a remarkable contest and hand the Courage a third straight win.
It looked like a rout from the off. Ashley Sanchez opened the scoring inside two minutes before Evelyn Ijeh struck twice in quick succession. Her first, assisted by Ally Schlegel, came in the ninth minute after a video review overturned an offside call. Sanchez then teed up Ijeh for a stunning long-range effort to make it 3-0 by the 15th minute.
The second half told a completely different story. Trinity Rodman pulled one back, Sofia Cantore added another, and Rebeca Bernal equalised with a sharp follow-up after her header was saved. From 3-0 down, it was 3-3. Game on.
Kansas City Current and Houston Dash shared a 1-1 draw after Kat Rader converted a penalty to level the scores. Denver Summit edged Utah Royals 2-1, with Janine Sonis mirroring Jacobs by netting her own stoppage-time winner.
