Three straight defeats. That is the brutal reality Racing Louisville carry into Thursday night's NWSL clash with NJ/NY Gotham FC. Losses to Chicago Red Stars (3-2), San Diego Wave (3-2) and Angel City (2-0) paint a picture of a side leaking goals at an alarming rate - 45 conceded across 23 matches this season, an average of two per game. Zero clean sheets all campaign. Not one.
Gotham arrive as the mirror opposite. Thirteen clean sheets in 23 outings tell you everything about their defensive steel. They concede just 0.7 goals per game overall and a miserly 0.6 at away grounds. Their 3-0 loss at Denver Summit last time out was a rare wobble, but context matters - Gotham boast 13 wins and only four defeats this term.
Gotham dominated the earlier meeting this season, winning 1-0 in May. Across six head-to-head encounters, Louisville have managed just one victory - a 1-0 home win in May 2025. Gotham have won three and drawn three of those six. This fixture at Louisville historically stays tight, but the current form gap is enormous.
Louisville's home record (five wins, four losses) offers slim hope, yet their inability to keep opponents out is crippling. Gotham's away numbers - six wins, just three defeats - suggest they will travel with confidence. Expect Gotham's organisation to frustrate a Louisville attack averaging 1.5 goals per game. The visitors look well-placed to control this one.
