Schröder shines - then self-destructs

Real Madrid opened their Liga F Moeve campaign in typically dramatic fashion, edging Atlético Madrid 3-2 in the first derby of the season at the Alfredo Di Stéfano.

She opened the scoring in just the seventh minute, latching onto a Keukelaar assist. Toletti then delivered the audacious cherry on top - an Olympic goal, struck directly from a corner kick.

Jensen fights back

Atlético refused to roll over. Jensen pulled one back and then grabbed a second before half-time, dragging her side right back into the contest.

But Schröder had the final say of the opening 45 minutes, restoring Real Madrid's two-goal cushion just before the break. A 3-2 lead at the interval - chaos already locked in.

Red cards fly in the second half

Things got spicier after the restart. Schröder's afternoon ended prematurely in the 54th minute when she was dismissed for a foul. Atlético suddenly had the numerical edge.

Not for long, though. Gio picked up her own red card in the 67th minute, evening things up at ten a side.

Goalkeeper Merle Frohms proved decisive in stoppage time, pulling off vital saves to preserve Real Madrid's slender advantage, as OneFootball reports.
