It was Wilson's 10th goal of the campaign - the fourth time in her NWSL career she has hit double figures - after Jessie Fleming threaded a pass into her path just before half-time.
Goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold was rarely troubled but made three saves to collect her eighth clean sheet of the season. It was Portland's first shutout in seven outings, pushing their record to 11-6-4.
The Thorns also paid tribute to former star Tobin Heath in a pre-match ceremony.
Denver, missing midfielder Lindsey Heaps through a knee injury, lacked creativity and now sit at 6-8-6 for the season.
Elsewhere, Ashley Sanchez bagged a brace - including a stoppage-time penalty - as the North Carolina Courage edged the Boston Legacy 2-1. The Kansas City Current and Seattle Reign played out a 1-1 draw.
