The 12-round contest - fought over two-minute rounds - was far from straightforward. Two judges had it 116-112 for the champion, while the third saw it dead level at 114-114. It was enough to hand Serrano the verdict, but only just.
The challenger made Serrano work for every second, pressing forward and targeting the body in close-range exchanges. Serrano leaned on her experience, picking Manzur off with sharp counters from her left hand to stay ahead on the cards, as detailed in a report by The World Boxing Association.
The result takes Serrano to 50 professional wins - a stunning landmark for the 126-pound champion who continues to cement her legacy as one of boxing's most decorated fighters.
