FC Köln head into Saturday's Frauen Bundesliga clash in buoyant mood after back-to-back victories that have transformed their early-season outlook. A thumping 4-0 demolition of Mainz 05 last Friday was the highlight - three goals before half-time underlining their attacking firepower. That display followed a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Hoffenheim, meaning Köln have kept two clean sheets in three matches and conceded just twice all season.
The visitors arrive in crisis. Three matches played, three defeats, one goal scored, six conceded. Union Berlin have been outclassed at every turn - a 1-4 home loss to Bayern Munich on the opening day set the tone, and a 0-1 defeat at SC Freiburg and a 0-1 reverse against Eintracht Frankfurt have compounded their misery. They have failed to score in two of those three fixtures, averaging just 0.3 goals per game.
This fixture has been competitive historically. Union Berlin claimed a 2-1 victory at home back in February, but Köln won the earlier meeting 2-1 on home soil in October 2025. With this match at Köln's ground - where they boast a perfect record this term - the hosts hold the edge.
Köln's defensive solidity and clinical finishing make them clear favourites. Union Berlin's inability to score consistently is their biggest vulnerability, and facing a side that has conceded just twice in three matches will test them severely. Köln should control proceedings, though Union's ability to compete in past head-to-heads means a complete walkover cannot be assumed.
