NJ/NY Gotham FC welcome Kansas City Current to Sports Illustrated Stadium tonight riding a remarkable seven-match unbeaten run. Six of those seven outings have ended in victory, with the last three all finishing 1-0 - a streak that speaks volumes about defensive resolve, if not attacking fireworks.
The Current arrive in Harrison, New Jersey in patchy form. Just two wins from their last seven games have left them clinging to seventh place, with rivals lurking beneath them in the table. It is not the trajectory a play-off hopeful wants heading into the business end of the campaign.
Kansas City still hold a dominant head-to-head record, winning the majority of the 14 all-time meetings between the sides. Gotham have managed only two victories across that span. Crucially, though, two of those wins have come in the last three encounters, including a recent Challenge Cup clash.
Gotham will be without Kayla Duran, Denise O'Sullivan and Emily Sonnett, all sidelined with knee injuries. Losing that trio is significant, but the depth built during this winning run should soften the blow.
Keep an eye on Jordynn Dudley, whose impressive displays have put her firmly in the Rookie of the Year conversation. On the Kansas City side, Haley Hopkins has been their most dangerous outlet, delivering key contributions in recent fixtures.
The match kicks off at 8:00 PM ET tonight. Conditions look ideal - temperatures around 81°F at kick-off with minimal rain expected. The game will be streamed live on Amazon Prime Video.
