Veteran midfielder Lina Hausicke has departed Werder Bremen to sign for Union Berlin, bringing the curtain down on a near-decade-long association with the club.
The 28-year-old, who arrived at Werder from Jena back in 2017, requested the move herself. She had worn the captain's armband since 2020 and was widely regarded as one of the squad's most influential figures.
Hausicke racked up 172 appearances for Werder Bremen, finding the net 18 times. Her total of 192 Bundesliga outings underlines just how consistent she has been at the top level of German women's football, as Soccerdonna reports.
Union Berlin gain a proven leader and reliable performer as they look to strengthen their Bundesliga credentials. For Werder, replacing a long-serving captain and talisman will be no small task heading into the new campaign.
