Anna Nordqvist's decision to hand three of her four Solheim Cup wildcard picks to rookies is not a bold statement of intent - it is a reckless gamble that could hand the Americans victory on European soil.

There is a fine line between bold and stupid. Anna Nordqvist has just pole-vaulted over it.
The European Solheim Cup captain has named her four wildcard picks for September's clash at Bernardus Golf. One of them, Leona Maguire, makes perfect sense. Proven pedigree. Big-match temperament. A player you would trust with a must-win putt on the 18th.
The other three? Julia Lopez Ramirez, Nastasia Nadaud, and Mimi Rhodes. Combined Solheim Cup experience: zero matches, zero points, zero pressure reps at this level.
Europe have home advantage in the Netherlands. That is supposed to be an asset, not something you gamble away by filling a quarter of your team with players who have never heard a Solheim Cup crowd roar - or, more importantly, felt one go silent after a missed four-footer.
The Americans are loading up with battle-hardened competitors. Nelly Korda is a given. Angel Yin carries a 5-3-1 record into this thing. Jennifer Kupcho has a point to prove after going 3-4-1 previously. Angela Stanford is building a squad designed for combat. Nordqvist, apparently, is building one designed for a gap year.
Let me concede the obvious counter-argument. Every great Solheim Cup player was a rookie once. Suzann Pettersen was a rookie once. So was Annika Sorenstam. Fresh legs, no fear, nothing to lose - that narrative writes itself beautifully in hindsight.
But three rookies out of four captain's picks is not sprinkling in youthful energy. It is structural recklessness. Nordqvist had the chance to select experience. Players who have been in the cauldron. She chose not to. That is her prerogative as captain. It is also, I suspect, her future regret.
Yes, the eight automatic spots produced a strong spine. Charley Hull, Celine Boutier, Carlota Ciganda, Maja Stark, Linn Grant - these are serious players. Esther Henseleit birdied the final hole at Royal Lytham just to secure her place. That is the competitive intensity a Solheim Cup demands.
But even the strongest spine snaps if the limbs are not ready. Captain's picks exist precisely to shore up weaknesses, to add experience where the qualification system might have missed it. They are surgical instruments. Nordqvist has used hers like a lucky dip.
Maybe I am wrong. Maybe Lopez Ramirez, Nadaud, and Rhodes will walk onto that first tee at Bernardus Golf and play like they have been there a hundred times. Maybe Nordqvist sees something the rest of us cannot.
But if Europe lose this Solheim Cup - on home soil, with a partisan Dutch crowd behind them - those three wildcard seats will be the first place everyone looks. And Nordqvist will have nobody to blame but herself.
Bravery requires calculated risk. This is just risk.
