Hanson bags brace on Spurs debut

Dream debut for Hanson

Kirsty Hanson needed precisely zero time to settle at her new club. The forward bagged two goals on her first outing in a Tottenham shirt as Spurs brushed aside West Ham 3-1 in the opening round of the Women's Super League.

Gaupset gets the party started

Both teams looked nervy early on, with stray passes and panicked clearances setting the tone. Tottenham fashioned the first real chance when Matilda Vinberg picked out Caitlin Dijkstra at the right side of the six-yard box, only for West Ham's defence to block.

The deadlock broke in the 18th minute. Julie Blakstad nodded the ball into the path of Signe Gaupset, who hammered a volley into the bottom corner. Ten minutes later, Gaupset turned provider, releasing Hanson to notch her first Spurs goal. Two-nil, and the Hammers were reeling.

Hanson's stunner seals it

West Ham could barely get a foothold after the break. Viviane Asseyi had a go but fired straight at goalkeeper Lize Kop. Picaud was busier at the other end, making saves as Tottenham kept pressing.

The pick of the bunch arrived on 74 minutes. Hanson curled a gorgeous strike into the top corner - the kind of goal that makes coaches weep with joy - to put the result beyond doubt.

Asseyi grabbed a consolation deep in stoppage time, but nobody was fooled. This was Tottenham's day from start to finish, as OneFootball reports.
