Jelena Ostapenko finds herself at the centre of yet another US Open controversy - this time on the doubles court. The fiery Latvian and partner Hsieh Su-wei secured a spot in the quarter-finals after defeating Maya Joint and Chan Hao-ching, but the scoreline was far from the main talking point.
Ostapenko took issue with the opposing team's coach, accusing them of clapping and shouting every time she and Hsieh made errors. Hsieh raised the matter directly with the umpire during a changeover, while Ostapenko demanded a translator be brought in to clarify any further remarks from the coaching box, branding the behaviour disrespectful.
Once the umpire agreed to intervene, Ostapenko channelled her frustration into celebration, directing her emotions squarely at the opposing bench. In a pointed final act, Hsieh and Chan refused to shake hands at the net - a snub reportedly rooted in a long-standing personal feud between the two Taiwanese-born players.
