Amanda Anisimova's US Open hopes came crashing down on Saturday as Anastasia Potapova dispatched the American 10th seed 6-2, 7-5 in the third round at Flushing Meadows.
The Austrian was clinical throughout, absorbing pressure and breaking serve at pivotal moments. Anisimova, meanwhile, was undone by her own errors - 18 forehand mistakes proving particularly costly.
It caps a miserable summer for Anisimova, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2025 and climbed as high as world No. 4. A coaching change earlier this year disrupted her momentum, and while she has since reunited with her former coach, the results have not followed.
Potapova, composed and efficient, now advances to the fourth round.
