Angel Reese produced one of the most dominant individual performances in WNBA history as the Atlanta Dream defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 78-71. The forward hauled in a staggering 26 rebounds - a new single-game record - while also adding 11 points, three assists, and three steals to her stat line.
Her 26-rebound haul eclipsed the previous mark set by Chamique Holdsclaw. More significantly, it pushed her season total to 458, surpassing A'ja Wilson's record for most rebounds in a single WNBA campaign.
Reese wasn't the only player making history. Sparks veteran Nneka Ogwumike delivered a season-high 27 points alongside 16 rebounds, becoming the oldest player in league history to post a 25-15 game at 36 years of age. The performance came with a bittersweet edge - Ogwumike has confirmed she plans to retire at the end of this season, a decision that has left plenty of observers questioning whether she's stepping away too soon.
Cameron Brink provided the defensive highlight reel, swatting away two Reese attempts in rapid succession during the opening quarter. Her timing and shot-blocking instincts were exceptional, even if they couldn't ultimately contain Reese's impact across the rest of the contest.
The result dropped the Sparks to 13-25, their playoff hopes already extinguished. Atlanta, meanwhile, improved to 25-13 as they chase a top-four seed heading into the post-season. The clash served as a vivid snapshot of two franchises heading in very different directions - and of the rivalry between their young stars, Brink and Reese, that promises to define the league for years to come.
