Trinity Rodman delivered the decisive blow as the Washington Spirit ground out a 1-0 victory over the Utah Royals on Wednesday night - her eighth goal of the campaign.
The match in Sandy, Utah, was interrupted in the 25th minute by bad weather. Once play resumed, Paige Metayer whipped in a cross that Rodman converted for the game's solitary goal.
Goalkeeper Sandy MacIver was in fine form, pulling off four saves to register her eighth clean sheet of the season. Remarkably, the Royals dominated possession and outshot the Spirit 18-6, yet failed to find the net - their first blank in nine matches.
Elsewhere, the Kansas City Current put Racing Louisville to the sword in emphatic fashion, romping to a 5-1 win. Haley Hopkins opened the scoring inside five minutes and went on to bag a brace, while Debinha matched her with two goals of her own, as AP reports.
Gotham FC wasted no time against Bay FC, with Midge Purce striking in just the second minute to seal a 1-0 triumph. The result gave Gotham a remarkable 10th shutout this season.
