Utah Royals put on a show over the weekend, hammering the Portland Thorns 5-1 in a one-sided NWSL affair. Portland actually struck first, but it was all Royals from there - five unanswered goals turning what began as a competitive fixture into a rout.
Cece Delzer bagged a brace, while Cloé Lacasse was the creative engine behind the demolition, racking up three assists. It was a statement performance from a Royals side growing in confidence.
Elsewhere, the San Diego Wave edged a tight contest against the Washington Spirit, winning 1-0 thanks to Lia Godfrey's 60th-minute strike. Sandra Paños earned her first clean sheet for the Wave, making two saves to preserve the shutout.
The result snapped the Spirit's three-match winning streak and ended a 13-match unbeaten run. Wave attacker Kimmi Ascanio was forced off with an injury just two minutes after the goal.
Boston Legacy and Denver Summit played out a 1-1 draw. The headline moment belonged to Boston goalkeeper Casey Murphy, who registered her first-ever NWSL assist, setting up Sammy Smith for the opener - a goal confirmed following a video review.
