Aryna Sabalenka swept past Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-2 in the US Open semi-finals on Thursday night, booking her place in yet another Grand Slam final with a commanding display of power tennis.
Pegula held firm in the early stages, matching Sabalenka's ferocity shot for shot. But once the Belarusian settled into her groove, the contest quickly tilted in one direction. Sabalenka hammered 29 winners and fired seven aces to seal a dominant victory.
The win extends a remarkable run of consistency. It is Sabalenka's fourth successive US Open final and her eighth consecutive hard-court Grand Slam decider - numbers that underline her status as the outstanding player on these surfaces.
She will face Elena Rybakina in Saturday's final, chasing a third straight US Open crown.
For Pegula, the defeat is a familiar sting. She remains the only semi-finalist at this year's tournament without a major title to her name - a stat that grows heavier with each passing Slam.
In her post-match comments, the American was gracious in defeat, conceding Sabalenka had played at an extraordinary level. Pegula even referenced her own victory over Sabalenka in Berlin earlier this year, joking about whether it had lit a fire under her opponent's approach.
Ultimately, she admitted there was precious little she could have done differently on the night.
