The WNBA is grappling with a deeply unwelcome pattern after sex toys were thrown onto the court during a Chicago Sky game - the second such incident in as many days.
The disruption occurred in the third quarter, with multiple items launched towards the playing surface and at least one landing on the court itself. Just 24 hours earlier, a Los Angeles Sparks versus Atlanta Dream fixture had been delayed by a similar stunt from a spectator.
These latest incidents echo a string of disruptions from last season, when green sex toys linked to a cryptocurrency promotion were tossed onto WNBA courts across six games between late July and early August.
The ION broadcast made no mention of the incident during coverage, instead centring on the Sky's victory, sealed by a game-winning shot from Sydney Taylor.
Frustration is mounting across the league. Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve spoke out against the behaviour, highlighting the disrespect it represents towards women in sport. Players have echoed those sentiments, calling for stronger action to protect the integrity of the game.
