Miyu Yamashita is running away with the CPKC Women's Open. The Japanese star carded a 5-under 65 on Saturday to surge to 19-under 191 at Royal Mayfair, opening up a mammoth six-shot cushion heading into Sunday's final round.
It wasn't entirely flawless. A bogey on the par-3 17th threatened to dent momentum - but Yamashita responded instantly with a birdie on the par-4 18th. That kind of resilience is terrifying for anyone trying to chase her down.
Gina Kim and Yuri Yoshida share second place at 13 under. Jennifer Kupcho sits a further stroke back. Good scores, sure - but six shots is a chasm at this level.
Perhaps the most eye-catching story behind Yamashita belongs to 16-year-old amateur Aphrodite Deng, the leading Canadian at 10 under. She's been sensational.
Former champion Brooke Henderson posted a 68 to reach 7 under - respectable, but nowhere near enough. Nelly Korda languishes at 4 under. Lydia Ko is even further adrift at 2 under.
Conditions on the tree-lined course along the North Saskatchewan River weren't helped by swarms of mosquitoes plaguing players throughout the day. Nobody, though, seems more comfortable out there than Yamashita.
