Alavés carry momentum and composure from their opening win. Averaging two goals scored with none conceded across one match is a small sample, but it points to a well-drilled unit.

How might the match unfold?

Atletico's attacking quality should assert itself at home, where their record last season was considerably stronger. However, their defensive vulnerability - three goals shipped away to Real Madrid on matchday one - gives Alavés genuine hope of getting on the scoresheet. If the visitors can stay compact and exploit transition moments, an upset is not out of the question. Expect Atletico to dominate possession, but Alavés could make this a closer contest than the table might suggest.
