Both sides desperate for first points

Granada welcome Real Sociedad to open their home campaign on Sunday, and neither side can afford another stumble. Both teams lost their opening-day fixtures in the Primera División Femenina, leaving them searching for answers ahead of Matchday 2. Granada fell 3-1 at Madrid CFF, while Real Sociedad suffered a 0-2 home defeat to EDF Logroño - a result that will have stung given expectations at the Basque club.

Real Sociedad's gruelling schedule

La Real arrive with heavy legs. Between their Champions League double-header against Chelsea - losing 5-2 away and 0-1 at home - and the league opener, they have played three competitive matches in the space of eleven days. That workload could take its toll. More concerning still, Real Sociedad have failed to score in two of their last three outings and have conceded eight goals across those fixtures.

Granada's defensive frailties

Granada's own form offers little comfort. Their final stretch of last season featured three consecutive defeats - to Granadilla Tenerife (1-1 draw aside), Real Sociedad (3-0) and Real Madrid (2-0) - before a wild 4-3 loss at home to Madrid CFF in Round 29. Conceding remains their fundamental issue: they shipped three goals on the opening day and leaked four at home against Madrid CFF in May.

Head-to-head favours the visitors

History tilts firmly in Real Sociedad's direction. Of their last six meetings, La Real have won three, drawn two and lost just once - that sole defeat coming back in September 2023. Crucially, Real Sociedad won the most recent clash 3-0 in May and also triumphed 2-0 in Granada in October 2024. The Andalusians have struggled to contain their Basque opponents consistently.

How this one could unfold

Both teams enter wounded, but Real Sociedad possess the superior pedigree and head-to-head dominance. Their Champions League exertions add fatigue as a variable, however, and Granada's home crowd could serve as the equaliser. Expect an open, nervy contest between two sides craving confidence. Real Sociedad's quality should edge it, but Granada will fancy their chances if they can exploit tired legs.
