Elena Rybakina booked her spot in the US Open final with a commanding semi-final victory over Coco Gauff - a result that also propelled the Kazakh player to the top of the world rankings.
She will now face Aryna Sabalenka in what promises to be a blockbuster showdown on Saturday.
Gauff arrived in New York riding a wave of confidence after her Cincinnati Open triumph, but Rybakina proved too composed on the biggest stage. The American made no secret of her disappointment, yet she is already turning her attention to the China Open and the 2027 season.
She has semi-final ranking points to defend and intends to use the coming months to sharpen her game.
