Barcelona arrive in Seville as reigning champions and Champions League holders, having dismantled Lyon 4-0 in last season's final. Their domestic supremacy is staggering - 29 wins from 30 league matches last term, scoring 130 goals and conceding just nine. They opened the new campaign in identical fashion, hammering Granadilla Tenerife 5-0 at home.
Sevilla finished eighth last season with 41 points and endured a rough run to close the campaign - losing three of their final five fixtures. However, they kicked off 2026-27 with a disciplined 1-0 away win at Deportivo de La Coruña, keeping a clean sheet to suggest renewed defensive resolve.
The historical record is brutal for the hosts. Barcelona have won all six recent meetings, scoring 26 goals and conceding just two. Last season's fixture at Sevilla ended 5-0. Even the tightest contest - a 1-0 Barcelona win in September 2024 - offered no comfort for the Andalusians.
Barcelona's attacking machine averages five goals per game this season. Sevilla must replicate their opening-day defensive grit and hope to exploit any complacency from the visitors. Realistically, though, the gulf in quality remains vast, and Barcelona will be heavy favourites to extend their perfect start.
