Washington Spirit head into this Saturday clash on an impressive run. Back-to-back wins - a 1-0 shutout of Bay FC followed by a gritty 2-1 comeback at Portland Thorns - have injected fresh energy into a squad that wobbled earlier in August. That 3-4 home loss to North Carolina Courage exposed defensive frailties, but the Spirit have since tightened up considerably.
Boston Legacy arrive in dire form. One win from their last five outings tells only part of the story - they've leaked 16 goals in that stretch. A 2-5 hammering at home to Angel City and a 1-4 defeat at Racing Louisville paint a grim picture. Their sole bright spot was a 2-1 away win at Utah Royals, but consistency remains elusive.
Washington's season record of 13 wins from 23 matches dwarfs Boston's six victories. The Spirit average 1.4 goals per game while conceding just 0.9. Boston ship 1.7 goals per match on average - and that figure balloons on the road, where they've managed only two wins from ten attempts.
Washington won the reverse fixture 2-1 in July, racing into a two-goal first-half lead. Expect a similar approach here. The Spirit's home form is solid, and Boston's away record is dreadful. Washington should control this one.
