NJ/NY Gotham FC sit top of the NWSL table and they are rolling. Five wins from their last five matches - including a statement 1-0 victory over second-placed Washington Spirit and a dramatic 3-2 comeback against Seattle Reign - have propelled them to 37 points from 18 games. That result snapped Gotham's momentum and remains their only blemish against a top-four opponent in recent weeks. The head-to-head across recent seasons is tight - three wins for San Diego, two for Gotham, and one draw from five meetings. Gotham won 2-1 at home in 2024, suggesting they can turn things around on their own patch.
Jordynn Dudley continues to catch eyes in Gotham's attack, drawing the most fouls in the league despite limited starts. Her energy off the bench adds another dimension to a side that has already proven it can score goals in bursts - that three-goal second half against Seattle was a perfect example.
Gotham's home fortress and league-best defence make them formidable. San Diego's road record, however, is no fluke - they travel with genuine bite. The Wave need points to protect their play-off quarter-final spot, while Gotham want to extend their cushion at the summit.
