North Carolina Courage are electric right now. Three consecutive wins, 11 goals scored in that stretch, and a 4-3 thriller away at Washington Spirit last time out that saw Natalie Jacobs net the winner deep in stoppage time. Ashley Sanchez opened the scoring inside two minutes against the Spirit - her 11th of the campaign - and the Courage raced into a 3-0 lead within 15 minutes. They nearly blew it in the second half, but the late heroics underlined a squad brimming with belief.
Sitting sixth on 30 points from 18 matches, the Courage are firmly in the playoff picture. Their attacking output is formidable - 1.8 goals per game across the season - though defensive frailties persist, with 1.4 goals conceded per match. At home, they average 2.1 goals scored but ship 1.7, making their ground an entertaining but unpredictable venue.
Houston Dash arrive in dire away form. Just one win from eight road games this season, averaging a meagre 0.8 goals per game on their travels, tells its own story. They sit 13th on 20 points and the playoff places feel increasingly distant.
Their recent form reads DLWDD - functional, but hardly inspiring. A 1-1 draw at home to Kansas City and a loss to league leaders NJ/NY Gotham FC reflect a side that competes in patches but lacks the cutting edge to trouble the better teams consistently. They've failed to score in six of 18 matches this season.
The Courage have dominated this fixture in recent seasons. They won 1-0 away at Houston in April, took a 2-1 home victory in June 2025, and hammered the Dash 5-1 at home in March 2024. Houston did win 3-0 at home in May 2024 and 2-1 in August 2025, but the pattern is clear: when these sides meet in North Carolina, the Courage tend to prevail emphatically.
North Carolina's attacking momentum and home advantage make them strong favourites. Houston's woeful away record - three goals conceded per away defeat on average - suggests they could be overwhelmed if the Courage start fast, as they did against Washington. The key factor will be whether the Dash can stay compact and frustrate a Courage side prone to defensive lapses. A tight, cagey affair would suit Houston, but North Carolina's recent scoring spree makes that scenario feel unlikely.
