North Carolina Courage welcome Orlando Pride on Friday in an NWSL clash that pits a side in steep decline against visitors with serious playoff ambitions. The Courage have lost three straight, conceding nine goals and scoring just once during that wretched run. Orlando sit 7th on 23 points - inside the playoff places but clinging on.
The numbers at home paint a grim picture for the Courage. They have lost four of eight home matches this season, conceding 15 goals at an average of 1.9 per game. A narrow 1-0 win over bottom-half Chicago last time out steadied the ship, yet six clean sheets in 17 matches suggest their defence can be breached.
Recent meetings have been tight. Orlando won the reverse fixture 1-0 in May, while North Carolina won 1-0 at Orlando last September. A 1-1 draw at this venue in May 2025 and a goalless stalemate in June 2024 confirm that these two rarely produce goal-fests when they meet.
Orlando's Barbra Banda is currently at WAFCON with Zambia, where she scored four goals against Egypt. Her absence strips the Pride of serious firepower and could prove decisive.
North Carolina desperately need to arrest their slide but the stats offer little encouragement - they have failed to score in four of 15 matches this season. Orlando travel poorly, winning just twice on the road. This has the hallmarks of a cagey, low-scoring contest where one moment of quality could settle it.
