Sweden's top women's football league faces a financial headache after its two biggest sponsors confirmed they are pulling out. Svenska Spel and Obos have both decided against renewing their deals with Damallsvenskan, with current contracts set to lapse at the end of 2026.
Frank Hojem of Svenska Spel explained the state-owned gambling company wants to redirect its resources towards other parts of Swedish sport. Over at Obos, Karin Hellgren pointed to broader difficulties within the property sector as the driving factor behind the decision, Fotbollskanalen reports.
The twin departures leave Elitfotboll Dam (EFD) in a precarious position. Heading into next season, the organisation has no main sponsor, no title partner, and no television deal in place - a trifecta of absences that will alarm clubs across the division.
There is at least a sliver of good news. Svenska Spel has signalled it will maintain its commitment to women's football more broadly, continuing to channel support through the Swedish Football Association even after stepping back from the league itself.
